What is a Comfort Zone? Just like the name implies, It's the place where you feel safe and comfortable. It's the lifestyle you're used to, the belief system you have, things you do on a daily basis. It's your personal little world where you are safe.
Sounds good, right?
It is, if you are completely satisfied with who you are and what you have. If that's the case, congratulations! You're living a dream life!
But if you want to become more, to achieve your most treasured goals, to fulfill your potential, then your comfort zone becomes your danger zone!
Why?
Because it holds you back!
You see, in your comfort zone you will receive the same results you've always got. There's no room for any change. Staying in your safety place can be fatal to your personal growth. If you're not learning new things and trying something new, the world will be simply passing you by.
Got a job you don't like? You can stay there forever, it's safe, but is it good for you?
The beliefs you've learned from your parents are familiar and comfortable but are they really working for you?
The habit to put things off and procrastinate is inseparable like your second name, but how many troubles has it caused?
If you want more of anything in your life, the place to start is with your comfort zone. By expanding your comfort zone you allow yourself to change, to grow, to develop.
Learning to step out of your comfort zone is essential for successful goal setting. Nothing significant was ever accomplished in comfort zone.
So, what's the solution?
To change your comfort zone you don't need to make 180 degree turn, move to the North Pole and start studying penguin habitat.
You just need to develop a new habit to expand your comfort zone little-by-little.Take a small step everyday. Do something you've never done before. Move the limits one inch at a time.
It sounds simple, but most of us are afraid even of small changes. Everything that is outside our safety zone associates with pain, anxiety, and discomfort. That's why most people fail to improve their life. It's just too much pain.
Achievement expert Brian Tracy says, "90% to 95% of people will withdraw to the comfort zone when what they try doesn't work. Only that small percentage, 5 or 10 percent, will continually raise the bar on themselves; they will push themselves out into the zone of discomfort, and these are always the highest performers in every field."
The more you step out of your comfort zone, the easier it gets.
Something amazing happens when we face our fears and overcome them. You feel like a world starts opening up to you. You develop self-confidence. You feel energized and excited. You start to live with joy.
Here are some things you might try:
1)Read a book in a genre you don’t usually read
2)Start learning a new language
3)Go to a catering or cooking school
4)Learn public speaking
5)Go to a lunch by yourself
6)Smile to someone you don't know in the supermarket
7)Start meditating
8)Unplug your TV for a week. (Just gave mine out! - You'll be amazed how much more free time you'll have.)
9)Give someone you barely know an unexpected little gift.
10)Try meeting new people or friends
It's a good idea to make your own list of about 40-50 new things you might try and then start doing it one-by-one. As you've tried something, cross it off from your list and congratulate yourself!
Don't stay parked in your comfort zone, get on a road of your life adventure and always STAY INSPIRED!
